ASE Brief: Energy Efficiency Key to Reaching 50% Energy Bill Reduction Goal

Washington, D.C. – The Alliance to Save Energy (ASE) today released a new brief, Maximizing Energy Efficiency: A Path to Lower Costs, Stronger Grid Resilience, and Smarter Government Spending, which outlines how strategic investments in energy efficiency can reduce consumer energy bills by 50% while strengthening U.S. energy infrastructure.
“Energy efficiency is not just about reducing energy consumption,” said Paula Glover, ASE President. “It’s a critical lever to creating greater energy affordability. By prioritizing efficiency, we can build a more affordable, resilient future for all Americans and make significant progress toward key national economic goals.”

The brief emphasizes the vital role energy efficiency plays in lowering consumer energy bills and enhancing grid resilience and reliability. It outlines how expanding tax incentives for energy-efficient home improvements, supporting programs that increase access to efficiency for all, and modernizing the grid are essential to economic opportunity and infrastructure strength.

It also highlights efficiency’s potential to streamline government operations and reduce overall costs. By modernizing practices—such as implementing digital transformation and focusing on results — federal agencies can reduce wasted energy and save taxpayers billions of dollars every year.

“This brief provides a bipartisan strategy for policymakers to achieve meaningful results,” said Sapna Gheewala Dowla, ASE Associate Vice President of Policy and Research. “Investing in energy efficiency is essential to meeting the administration’s goal to reduce energy bills, while also streamlining government spending.”

The Alliance to Save Energy urges policymakers to protect and expand funding and tax incentives for energy efficiency to fully realize its potential to support American families, businesses, and national energy goals.
